It is time.
If you have been looking for the best deal on new HVAC equipment, your wait is over. Right now, you can save a considerable amount of money by taking advantage of tax credits, manufacturer rebates and energy savings on new heating and cooling systems.
First, a number of federal tax credits are available for energy-efficient upgrades you make to your Michigan home. Some of the tax credits are for a specific dollar amount, while others are for a certain percentage of the total cost. The dollar-specific tax credits include:
- $150 for a gas or oil furnace or boiler.
- $300 for a biomass heating stove.
- $300 for an air conditioner.
- $300 for a water heater.
- $50 for an advanced main air circulating fan.
The percentage-based tax credits include 10 percent of the cost of new windows, doors, skylights, insulation or roofing, though there is a cap on the total amount you can count toward that 10 percent. For upgrades that take advantage of alternative-energy sources, you can get a larger tax break (30 percent of the total cost) with no upper cap. These alternative-energy tax credits, which run through 2016, apply to geothermal heat pump systems, solar energy modules, wind turbines and fuel cells.
On top of the tax credits, for a limited time you can get rebates on equipment from Lennox. These Lennox rebates include up to $1,100 off the cost of a new home-comfort system, which includes a furnace, an air conditioner, an air cleaner and a thermostat. You can also get a $300 rebate for installing four solar energy modules.
These rebates from Lennox only apply through Aug. 26, so you’ll need to act soon if you want to take advantage.
There are certain energy efficiency requirements the equipment has to meet to be eligible for some of these savings.
