If you’re not familiar with HVAC-related terms, such as condensing, ERV and HRV, R410A, mini-split, MERV and blower door, or with how these systems, components, ratings and tests save energy and increase home comfort, you can rest assured that, with rigorous testing and ongoing education from NATE’s revised exam, your NATE-certified technician will know these terms inside and out, and provide exceptional service and installation.
What is NATE?
The most coveted certification in the HVAC industry is NATE – North American Technician Excellence. NATE, the largest non-profit body for HVAC certification, was established by HVAC industry leaders and experts to recognize and promote service and installation excellence and continued education for technicians. These are a few of the benefits of hiring a NATE-certified technician:
- Technicians have undergone rigorous testing in core HVAC knowledge, and installation and service testing in one or more specialty areas.
- Nationwide third-party polling showed that homeowners were 50 percent more satisfied with NATE-certified technicians and contractors than those without NATE certification.
- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency suggests homeowners seek out NATE-certified technicians and contractors, a solid testament to the reputation NATE certification carries.
- Continued education and mandatory re-certification every five years ensures your NATE-certified technician is always at the top of his or her game, demonstrating skill and knowledge for service, diagnostics and installation of technologically advanced HVAC systems.
HVAC Upgrade: NATE’s Revised Exam
NATE officials recognized that it was time to perform a tune-up of the HVAC technician certification process. NATE’s Technical Committee of more than 70 volunteer subject-matter experts and 20 industry professionals collaborated on the contents of the Core Service and Core Installation exams.
NATE’s revised exam reflects the need for technicians to stay on top of service and installation of technologically advanced HVAC systems, and supports the industry’s goal to meet and exceed consumer demand for more efficient heating and cooling systems.
