Adding a Humidifier to Your Michigan Home’s HVAC System Has Multiple Benefits

Adding a Humidifier to Your Michigan Home's HVAC System Has Multiple BenefitsAs the air cools off in the winter, it naturally becomes drier. You have a few ways of combating this, but the most effective method is to install a whole-house humidifier in the HVAC system. By adding a humidifier, you increase the moisture inside your home to the ideal comfort level.

Benefits of a Whole-Home Humidifier

  • Even moisture distribution: A whole-house humidifier introduces vapor to the air circulating around every room, providing an even amount of moisture that a portable model simply can’t provide.
  • Improved health: Viruses and bacteria tend to thrive in either low- or high-humidity environments. They die off sooner when humidity is between 35 and 50 percent, which happens to be the ideal comfort zone for humans. That means by adding a humidifier, you’re less susceptible to infection and more likely to get better quickly.
  • Enhanced comfort: Dry air leads to itchy skin, dry nasal passages and sore throats. Not to mention it increases the chance of painful static shock. These common winter problems may make you dread the cold weather. Fortunately, moist air is the solution to all of them.
  • Better preservation: Wood floors, furniture and musical instruments are sensitive to overly dry conditions. Even plaster, paint and artwork can suffer. Electronics are also in danger of becoming damaged from static electricity. You can avoid the adverse effects of dry air by adding a humidifier.
  • Higher energy efficiency: Turning up the thermostat is the most obvious way to stay warm this winter, but a whole-house humidifier can help you feel warmer without increasing heating bills. Moist air doesn’t evaporate as much water from your skin. Evaporation has a cooling effect, so by limiting it, you naturally feel warmer. If you lower the temperature by 2 degrees after adding a humidifier, you could save up to 8 percent on heating bills.
