Ductless mini-splits are an ideal and flexible system that can provide comfort solutions in a number of situations. Whether you are building an addition or part of your home just isn’t getting enough air, mini-splits can help eliminate the shortcomings associated with traditional forced-air systems.
Ductless mini-splits are composed of four indoor air-handler units that are connected to an outdoor compressor by conduits. Conditioned air is generated by the compressor and distributed to the air handlers through the conduits. Because the air does not travel through actual ductwork, no air leaks out, making them remarkably efficient.
This is an ideal solution for a new addition. With a forced-air system, you would have to extend your ductwork to heat or cool the addition. This can become very expensive very quickly. A mini-split avoids this hassle and is very simple to install.
Ductless mini-splits also let you conserve energy more carefully. If you leave a room that has a mini-split, you can simply turn it off so that you don’t waste money cooling an empty room. Many models come with a remote control so that turning the mini-split on and off is as easy as flipping a light switch.
You can configure mini-splits in a number of ways. They can be hung on walls or the ceiling or even placed on the floor. The compressor can be as far as 50 feet away from your home, allowing one compressor to provide conditioned air to handlers at opposite ends of the house.
The installation is simple and requires no more than a 3-inch hole drilled through a wall of the room where the system is going in. The conduit is passed through the hole and then tightly sealed.
